Greater Pittsburgh Convention Center

World Class Center Catapults Pittsburgh’s Reputation

Less than ten years after it was built, the Greater Pittsburgh Convention Center was too small to compete for the large national and multi-national conventions that bring millions in tourism dollars to the coffers of cities across America.  Tripp Umbach’s economic impact study that evaluated everything from lease rates to land opportunities provided compelling evidence to rally the community around a new convention facility.  The David L. Lawrence Convention Center, located on a former brown field site, is a landmark structure that has come to symbolize a new era for the Pittsburgh region.  The world’s first green convention center underscores the city’s evolution from the steel capital of the world to an an innovation economy driven by health care, software and green technologies.  The economic impact resulting from the new center, which was chosen by the Obama administration to host the G-20 summit, has exceeded Tripp Umbach’s estimates.
