Ignite Institute for Individualized Health

Accelerating the Pace of Progress

How do you raise $245 million for a research institute focused on personalized medicine in the midst of the worst recession in half a century?  How do you build consensus among government, university, medical and philanthropic interests to leverage their assets for future gain?  After its successful work helping to launch TGen, Tripp Umbach was retained to conduct an independent analysis of Ignite’s potential impact on the economy, health care and higher education.  The work helped attract funding and partnerships with medical schools and clinical partners, including Inova Health System.  With seed money provided by the state and Inova, Ignite is on the road to building a specialized center for personalized medicine that would tailor treatments to patients’ DNA.  The non-profit, medical research facility to be located in Northern Virginia is expected to employ up to 500 scientists and to ultimately redefine how health care is delivered.
