Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture
Milking Assets Provides Sustainable Income for Farmers
When the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture sought ways to expand farmers’ capabilities and, ultimately, their income, they tapped Tripp Umbach for its rigorous research, entrepreneurial approach and creative solutions. Tripp Umbach drew upon the collective expertise of its staff, which has developed hundreds of business plans for the public and private sector, to examine best practices in agribusiness not only in western Pennsylvania, but across the state and the nation. Utilizing IMPLAN data and models, Tripp Umbach calculated the return on investment and market potential of a variety of strategies for economic development. Among the recommendations successfully employed are a Buy Fresh, Buy Local campaign that has dramatically increased grocery shelf space for local products and an agritourism program that expanded a dairy farm to include an ice cream factory, tours and samples.
