National Economic Impact Study for Children’s Hospitals

National Metric Opens Minds and Revenue Streams

Children’s hospitals across America are often overlooked as economic drivers for communities and, consequently, tend to receive little government support despite the high cost of care for children compounded by the large number of children without health coverage.  Following its work with the largest and most prestigious children’s hospitals in the country, Tripp Umbach was selected to calculate the substantial return on investment.  Through economic impact analysis and government revenue models, Tripp Umbach quantified the effect of everything from job creation and employment to medical education, clinical research, new business development, tourism and volunteerism.  Their work, sponsored by Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, demonstrated that children’s hospitals actually contribute more economic impact per child, per bed, per day then teaching hospitals, with four times more visitors per patient than their adult counterparts.
