In 2013, The Florida International University HealthCare Network (FIU-HCN) wanted to move forward in its growth and its mission to support the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. The Florida International University contracted with Tripp Umbach, an established leader in providing strategic planning services to academic medical centers, to facilitate a comprehensive strategic planning process as well as detailed projections on income and expenses over the next five years of operation in order to encourage University and community investment in the enterprise.

The development of a clear strategic direction allowed various audiences within FIU to better understand the mission, activities, and potential of the FIU-HCN to serve the College of Medicine as the University’s health sciences mission.  The development of a strategic plan enabled faster and more effective implementation of FIU-HCN’s mission, thereby allowing the University, college, hospital partners, new medical school, and integrated health sciences campus to benefit as soon as possible from the HealthCare Network activities.
