In 2014, The University of Washington (UW) engaged Tripp Umbach to conduct a study to assess its economic impact on the Seattle region and the state of Washington. Quantifying the school’s contribution to the local and state economy as well as its leadership position in specific research and development sectors such as medicine and technology is important in looking to the future of UW.
Overall, $1 out of every $31 in the state’s economy can be tracked to the university for a total FY14 impact of $12.5 billion. It was also verified that UW is the state’s third-largest employer; supporting over 79,000 jobs across its three campuses.  For FY14, UW also directly and indirectly contributed more than $565 million to state and local coffers.
