In 2010, the one-mile district along the Stillwater Avenue commercial corridor of Stamford, Connecticut was designated as the “Vita Health & Wellness District.” The goals of the Vita District were to improve the health of the neighborhood, reduce the chronic disease burden, and lower excessive spending resulting from the inefficient delivery of medical services. Tripp Umbach was retained by Stamford Hospital to produce the hospital’s 2013 Community Health Needs Assessment, and Vita was a priority focus. The project aimed to impact health disparities by directly addressing social determinants of health.
