Elon University

Measuring the Economic and Community Impact of Engaged Learning

Ernest A. Koury, Sr. Business Center at Elon University in North Carolina.

The Challenge

Elon University, a nationally recognized private institution in central North Carolina, sought to measure its extensive economic and community contributions across Alamance County, Guilford County, and the broader state. Known for its model of engaged learning and student success, Elon aimed to quantify how its educational excellence, outreach, and alumni network strengthen both local and statewide economies.

How We Helped

Tripp Umbach partnered with Elon University to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the institution’s economic, employment, and government revenue impacts. The study evaluated university operations, spending, and the far-reaching influence of alumni contributions. In addition to data modeling, Tripp Umbach developed a clear, narrative-driven report designed to support Elon’s communication goals and highlight the institution’s integral role in driving educational and community advancement.

The Impact

Tripp Umbach’s findings underscore Elon University’s role as a powerful economic engine and community partner. With campuses in Alamance and Guilford Counties, Elon generates meaningful economic activity statewide and beyond. Nationally, Elon’s nearly 36,000 alumni contribute an estimated $8.6 billion in combined economic impact, demonstrating the lasting value of the university’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement.

Every successful project starts with a conversation.
