Ibn Sina Foundation
Building a Sustainable Model for Medical Education and Workforce Growth in Houston

The Challenge
The Ibn Sina Foundation sought to evaluate the feasibility of expanding medical education in Houston, Texas, to address the region’s persistent physician shortage and improve access to care for underserved populations. The Foundation needed a data-driven assessment to determine whether establishing a new medical school and related programs could sustainably meet regional workforce and community health needs.
How We Helped
Tripp Umbach conducted a comprehensive feasibility study examining physician demand, existing healthcare infrastructure, clinical training capacity, and partnership potential with hospitals and universities. Beyond exploring the viability of a new medical school, Tripp Umbach supported the Foundation’s broader initiatives—expanding residency training, advancing workforce development, and improving access to mental-health and primary-care services. Through data analysis, strategic modeling, and collaboration with community and policy leaders, the engagement produced a roadmap for building an integrated healthcare education and delivery ecosystem.
The Impact
The resulting study confirmed a viable and strategic path for expanding medical education and workforce capacity in the Greater Houston area. The findings provide the Ibn Sina Foundation with a clear framework to pursue new academic and clinical partnerships, launch residency programs, and strengthen access to care. By aligning education, service delivery, and workforce planning, the Foundation is positioned to create long-term improvements in health equity, physician retention, and community well-being across the region.
