iEXCEL – Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning
Transforming Healthcare Education and Driving Economic Growth in Nebraska

The Challenge
iEXCEL, headquartered at The Dr. Edwin G. & Dorothy Balbach Davis Global Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, represents a pioneering model for interprofessional education, training, and research. Leveraging advanced simulation and visualization technologies, iEXCEL provides healthcare professionals with hands-on learning in safe, state-of-the-art simulated settings—redefining how clinical proficiency and collaboration are achieved.
How We Helped
In 2021, iEXCEL engaged Tripp Umbach to conduct a comprehensive economic impact study to quantify its influence across Nebraska. The analysis measured the program’s effects on economic output, employment, workforce development, and tax generation—drawing from data on capital investments, operational spending, payroll, and commercial spin-off activities.
iEXCEL’s impact on Nebraska’s economy continues to expand rapidly. Between 2020 and 2022, its total economic contribution grew 61%—from $13.3 million to $22.4 million—while supported employment increased from 87 to 150 jobs. Looking ahead, projections estimate iEXCEL’s total economic impact will reach $114.2 million by 2026 and $173.1 million by 2030, supporting up to 955 jobs statewide and generating up to $3.5 million in annual state and local tax revenue.
By combining innovation in education with measurable economic benefit, iEXCEL has proven that a technology-driven visual learning center can thrive in Nebraska—creating lasting value for the state’s workforce, healthcare system, and economy.
