Exploring the Future of Veterinary Education in Montana

The Challenge
Roseman University of Health Sciences, in partnership with the Great Falls Development Alliance (GFDA), sought to evaluate the feasibility of establishing a new School of Veterinary Medicine in Great Falls, Montana. The initiative aimed to strengthen animal care education, support workforce growth, and advance economic development across Montana’s Golden Triangle region.
How We Helped
Tripp Umbach led a comprehensive feasibility study assessing the opportunities, benefits, and sustainability of expanding veterinary education in the region. The engagement included stakeholder interviews, market and environmental scans, primary and secondary data analysis, financial modeling, and economic impact assessment—culminating in actionable recommendations for next-step planning and development.
Tripp Umbach’s analysis confirmed that Roseman University provides a strong foundation for the proposed School of Veterinary Medicine and that regional support and financial viability exist to move forward. When fully operational, the school is projected to generate $90.2 million in annual economic impact, support 532 jobs, and contribute $3.5 million in annual state and local tax revenue. Beyond the numbers, the project promises to strengthen Montana’s workforce, drive innovation in animal health, and enhance access to veterinary care across the region.
