Evaluating the Need for a Stand-Alone Children’s Hospital in Southern Nevada

A nurse, a father, and a young child in a hospital room. The child is a patient in a hospital bed, and the adults are smiling and interacting with her.

The Challenge

Southern Nevada has long faced limited access to specialized pediatric care, with many families forced to travel outside the state for advanced treatment. The Lincy Institute at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and the Nevada Health and Bioscience Corporation (NHBC) engaged Tripp Umbach to evaluate the feasibility of developing a full-service, independent children’s hospital to serve this growing need. The study aimed to assess facility size, service scope, and funding potential, as well as the broader economic and community benefits of such an investment.

How We Helped

Tripp Umbach conducted a comprehensive feasibility study examining regional healthcare infrastructure, population health trends, and pediatric service gaps. The analysis also projected the potential economic impact of a stand-alone hospital—quantifying how it could generate new jobs, expand workforce development, and retain patient care dollars currently leaving the state. The resulting report provided actionable recommendations and financial models to guide planning, stakeholder collaboration, and capital development.

The Impact

The study confirmed that an independent children’s hospital would play a transformative role in Southern Nevada’s healthcare landscape. By consolidating high-quality pediatric services and expanding access to specialized care, the proposed facility would reduce the need for families to seek treatment elsewhere while advancing clinical research and education. The findings demonstrate how a stand-alone children’s hospital could strengthen Nevada’s healthcare ecosystem, improve health outcomes, and create long-term economic and social benefits for the region.

Every successful project starts with a conversation.
