University of Nebraska Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources

Strengthening Nebraska’s Communities and Economy Through Integrated Agricultural Innovation

Hands holding agriculture

The Challenge

Supporting the nation’s third-largest agricultural state economy, the Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) at the University of Nebraska needed to understand and quantify its economic and community impact across the state. With a mission spanning research, teaching, and extension services, IANR sought a comprehensive assessment of how its work contributes to Nebraska’s leading industry: agriculture and natural resources.

How We Helped

Tripp Umbach conducted an independent economic impact analysis for IANR, evaluating its direct, indirect, and induced effects on Nebraska’s economy for Fiscal Year 2024. The study provided data-driven insights into the Institute’s contributions through research, education, and statewide outreach, equipping leadership and stakeholders with information to guide strategic planning and investment.

The Impact

IANR drives workforce development, advances agricultural research, and extends practical knowledge to communities and producers statewide. Its integrated missions generate nearly $1 billion in annual economic value, support high-wage careers, and strengthen Nebraska’s agriculture sector. With a legacy of public engagement and innovation, IANR continues to enhance the state’s economy and serves as a national model for impactful, integrated higher education, research, and community service.

Every successful project starts with a conversation.
