Xavier University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Laying the Foundation for a New Era in Medical Education

The Challenge
Xavier University sought to address a critical regional physician shortage by exploring the development of a four-year osteopathic medical school in Cincinnati, Ohio. To move forward, the university needed a comprehensive feasibility study that evaluated market demand, institutional readiness, and long-term sustainability—grounded in data and community input.
How We Helped
Tripp Umbach conducted an independent feasibility study analyzing regional healthcare needs, stakeholder perspectives, financial projections, and clinical training capacity. The evaluation centered on five key factors: physician workforce demand, community support, Xavier’s organizational capacity, clinical partnership opportunities, and funding feasibility. The findings offered a clear, evidence-based roadmap to guide decision-making.
Based on the study’s recommendations, Xavier University advanced toward establishing a four-year osteopathic medical school, beginning the process for Applicant Status with the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). The university also initiated the search for a Founding Dean and began collaborating with healthcare partners to build a robust clinical education network—steps that position Xavier to expand access to medical training and strengthen the region’s healthcare workforce.
