Allegheny Health Network

Strengthening Regional Health Through Collaboration and Insight

The headquarters of Highmark Health, a non-profit healthcare company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Challenge

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) is a leading integrated healthcare system serving patients across a four-state region that includes Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, and West Virginia. With 14 hospitals and more than 200 primary and specialty care practices, AHN is recognized for delivering world-class medicine and compassionate, community-based care to patients locally, nationally, and globally.

How We Helped

In 2021, AHN partnered with Tripp Umbach to conduct a comprehensive Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) for its health system and individual hospitals. The study incorporated broad community engagement, including multilingual surveys, provider feedback, and 59 stakeholder interviews with public health experts, local leaders, and regional organizations. Insights were aligned with secondary data and presented to AHN’s CHNA Steering Committee to assess current needs, identify emerging issues, and guide future improvement efforts.

The Impact

Tripp Umbach’s findings identified four key focus areas for AHN’s continued community investment: social determinants of health, behavioral health, chronic disease, and health equity. The CHNA process not only provided a detailed picture of community health status but also fostered new partnerships and strengthened collaboration among local and regional agencies.
With these insights, Allegheny Health Network continues to leverage its collective expertise and resources to improve health outcomes and empower residents across the region to live their healthiest lives.

Every successful project starts with a conversation.
