Allegheny Health Network

Improving Community Health Across Western Pennsylvania and Beyond

Hands from a group stacked in the middle of a team huddle

The Challenge

As a leading nonprofit health system serving 12 Pennsylvania counties and two in New York, Allegheny Health Network (AHN) is dedicated to improving the health of the communities it serves. To identify and address the region’s most pressing health needs, AHN sought a comprehensive, data-driven assessment to guide its community health priorities and long-term strategies.

How We Helped

In partnership with Tripp Umbach, AHN conducted a system-wide Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), fulfilling Affordable Care Act requirements for tax-exempt hospitals. The assessment included eleven detailed reports—one for each hospital and a collective report for the network’s four Neighborhood Hospitals—providing a clear understanding of regional health disparities, challenges, and opportunities.

The Impact

The CHNA serves as a foundation for AHN’s future health initiatives, guiding investments and partnerships that improve population health and promote equity. The findings inform AHN’s ongoing collaboration with local organizations and providers to address key community health needs and support the development of implementation plans in 2025. Through this work, AHN continues its mission to deliver exceptional care and build healthier, more resilient communities across Western Pennsylvania and Southwestern New York.

Every successful project starts with a conversation.
