Alpine-X

Driving Tourism, Recreation, and Economic Growth in Fairfax County

The Challenge

Alpine-X sought a detailed, independent analysis to quantify the economic and tourism benefits its proposed year-round indoor snowsports resort at Fairfax Peak would bring to Fairfax County and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Before moving forward, the company needed clear projections of how the development, operations, and visitor activity would translate into regional economic impact, job creation, and government revenue.

How We Helped

Tripp Umbach was retained to quantify the projected economic, tourism, and fiscal impacts associated with the development and operation of Alpine-X’s Fairfax Peak resort. The analysis measured direct, indirect, and induced effects from construction, operations, and visitor spending, evaluating how the attraction’s “destination power” would benefit both Fairfax County and the broader state economy.

The Impact

Tripp Umbach’s findings show that Alpine-X’s resort at Fairfax Peak will generate substantial and sustained economic activity. Once fully operational in 2025, the resort is projected to produce $232 million in annual economic impact for Fairfax County in its first year and $261.3 million by year five. For the Commonwealth of Virginia, the total impact is expected to reach $288.8 million in year one and $325.4 million by year five. Beyond these financial benefits, Alpine-X will create jobs, increase tourism, and foster community engagement—integrating educational touchpoints, public green spaces, and outdoor trails that enhance quality of life and celebrate the region’s heritage.

Every successful project starts with a conversation.
