The Challenge

Texas Southern University (TSU), one of the nation’s largest historically Black universities, serves over 7,500 students through more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs. As TSU looks toward the future, the university sought to explore opportunities to expand its presence in medicine and the health sciences—fields critical to meeting Texas’s growing healthcare workforce needs.

How We Helped

Tripp Umbach partnered with TSU to complete a two-phase feasibility study assessing the potential to establish new medical and health science programs over the next five years. The analysis evaluated financial feasibility, clinical capacity, program alignment, and statewide market demand across high-growth disciplines, including osteopathic and allopathic medicine, physical and occupational therapy, psychology, dentistry, optometry, communication sciences, and nursing.

Tripp Umbach’s findings confirmed strong demand for additional healthcare education programs in Texas, where the supply of qualified professionals remains below future needs. The study recommended TSU proceed with phase two, developing a comprehensive feasibility and business plan to advance program implementation. This next step will position TSU to play a vital role in training the next generation of healthcare professionals and addressing the state’s growing demand for care.

Every successful project starts with a conversation.
