University of Nebraska System
Driving Education, Innovation, and Economic Growth Statewide

The Challenge
As Nebraska’s only public research university, the University of Nebraska System sought to measure and communicate its broad contributions to the state’s economic, educational, and social vitality. Spanning four campuses—Lincoln, Omaha, Kearney, and the University of Nebraska Medical Center—the System wanted a data-driven understanding of how its academic, research, and healthcare missions collectively strengthen Nebraska’s workforce and economy.
How We Helped
Tripp Umbach was engaged to conduct an independent analysis quantifying the university’s total economic impact, employment support, and alumni-driven outcomes. Using rigorous modeling and regional data, the study evaluated the System’s reach across all sectors—from education and healthcare to innovation and community development—highlighting its role as a statewide economic engine.
The University of Nebraska System generates $6.4 billion in annual economic impact and supports more than 52,000 jobs across the state. One in seven working-age Nebraskans holds a University of Nebraska degree, collectively boosting statewide earning power by nearly $3.5 billion each year. Beyond the numbers, the System fuels opportunity and innovation—educating future leaders, advancing research, and improving quality of life for communities across Nebraska.
